You'll find in this post all the resources and instructions available to make new parts and decorations for Mecabricks. It will be updated when new content will be added.

Decoration Workflow
Mostly current but needs to be updated to include bump maps and metal maps.

This thread can also be of interest http://www.mecabricks.com/en/forum/topic/128

Colour Chart
This table contains the hexadecimal values for all the materials available in Mecabricks as well as the conversion from other systems like LDD or Bricklink.
http://www.mecabricks.com/docs/colour_chart.pdf

wlange has also created swatch libraries for photoshop and illustrator: http://www.mediafire.com/file/tnfoui8jxkra6f7/Mecabricks+Colors.zip
UmbraManis did the same for gimp and inkscape: http://www.bricksafe.com/files/Umbra-Manis/OpenLDDFiles/Mecabricks.gpl

UV Maps
This folder contains all the UV maps available for Mecabricks. Please make sure that the decorations you create are of the same size as the corresponding uv map.

I also wrote a guide about uv maps for minifigure decorations https://www.mecabricks.com/en/forum/topic/1357

Icons
[Update] Icons are now automatically generated on the server without the need to use a third party software.

Drop Box
To submit you decorations, please use the Drop Box section of Mecabricks. Guidelines are also provided in this post.

Thanks for this Scrubs! I'd like to learn how to make metal maps, I've got two decals that could use it. 😉

To make it short: This is a png file that can include 3 values:

  1. #ffffff for chrome
  2. #7f7f7f for pearlescent or metal
  3. #000000 for everything else

e.g. http://www.mecabricks.com/assets/parts/maps/metalness/3814d226_metal.png

Thanks! I'll send a map for one of mine soon. 😃

Hi again, how would I go about creating a bump map for a stickered part? I noticed that it's possible to add decals to part #41531 now, and would like to make the decal(s) for part #41531pb009.

#000000 for part and #ffffff for sticker shape.
e.g. for part 41531d1: http://www.mecabricks.com/assets/parts/maps/bump/41531d1_bump.png

Thanks!

Hello, I'm really new to blender and this website, I bought the 3d file and I'd like to know which one of them is for lego minifigures? also could you make a tutorial as I'm really new and I don't know how it works for blender 😢

Very well done website!

What exactly do you require? You can send me a private message that explains in detail what you are trying to achieve and I'll help you to get there.

Message sent!

I was just generating icons for some of my decals that I'll be submitting shortly, and hit an unsightly glare on a (87079) 2x4 Flat Tile. Am I allowed to alter lighting so that there's no glare? If so, how?

As a side note, I noticed most thumbnails in the workshop for 87079 decorations don't have this, but some do.

Thanks!

Hello. Yes for flat times you can. Change rotation of HDRI to 90 degrees.

I added the video tutorials from Sealund and Stas to the first post .
The first one is using Inkscape which is a free software and the second one Photoshop.

Thanks a lot!)

Great! I hope it will help other users to help us make more decorations for Mecabricks!

If you have any questions about what I'm doing in the tutorial, don't hesitate to ask! Some commands may seem strange when i'm using keyboard shortcuts that don't show in the video. Also you can download my template file and palette from the links in the video or here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1egboPppaZ9-6gWFw6tHY2UyAg9EXTOcK

What to do if the decoration runs on a transparent part? Is there even a workaround for that?

Transparency is handled by the alpha layer of the png decoration file. So for a metal map, transparent areas are #000000.

I mean a normal decoration (no metal or pearlescent) put on a transparent part. There is a need for a black/white map to tell sticker area and part apart, but do I need to give it another map which will somehow tell the program that the part is transparent, or is it controlled by other parameters or how does it work? 😖
Also, I mean the part discussed in the private message. Maybe I'll stick the conversation there not to trash up this topic with my confusion.

Hey all,

I'm not exactly sure where to post this so I thought here would be the best. I have a .blend file of every LDD minifig part (many of which aren't yet here in Mecabricks). It's not perfect but I can Export things to any file format needed to if anyone, staff or user, needs a specific part to help model for Mecabricks or otherwise, let me know. Just a heads up, every parts has to be exported first so I need specific numbers to make the part. Also keep in mind that hey are directly taken from LDD via a 3d screenshot so aren't perfect, but can at least help.

We cannot use the LDD parts because they are not as detailed as we want. 😉
