Mecabricks Group in Blender
IstakaCiti started this discussion in Model Export and Render

Hi,

Is there anyways to get the Groups created in Mecabricks transferred in Blender? For example if I have a car model with doors as groups. I want to open/close them in Blender to avoid jumping back and forth between Mecabricks and Blender for different renders.

While exporting we do select "Group by Geometry" what does it do?

Thanks

No. The collada 3D format doesn't support it.
This is the whole point of having Mecabricks which is a very specialised CAD tool to easily deal with building models made out of LEGO bricks which general 3D software don't.

Group by Geometry:
Geometry for parts sharing the same mesh is exported once -> smaller files and faster to handle in 3D software.

Got it, I thought so. Its not too much of a problem to change it in mecabricks, export and import the model in new state. but we always want more 😃

Thank you.

But is there a way to export brick models with groups?

Nope.

Setting up your groups within blender after the import process is not such a pain! 😉 you can easily use some pieces' origins as pivot points and create empties to support your groups (doors, moving panels, etc...)
Scrubs is already extremely simplifying the whole process! We have to perform a little bit of work ourselves, no? 😉
