Different light source direction for better metalness visability?
wlange started this discussion in Suggestions and Ideas

Currently, one has to tilt a model in the Workshop to have the camera pointing upwards in order to see the metalness effect. Perhaps there is a way improve this, so it would show up when rotating minifigs sidewards (by changing the BG HDR).

HDR don't work like in Blender 😃 It doesn't light the scene. it is mainly here for reflection. Lighting is really tricky with webGL and Threejs. It took me days of tweaking to get to a result I was roughly satisfied with. I had to play with the roughness of the material, the position of the point lights which is following the camera in a special way plus other fix lights. All of that to make sure I wasn't burning part of the model under 90% of the viewing angles.

I see. It doesn't matter that much anyway, as for rendering, we can put light sources to show the metal reflection how we want it.
