I was wondering if there was a way to apply surface imperfections (Scratches, fingerprints, smudges, etc.) to the meshes in order to create a more realistic render? Any help would be awesome.
Hello,
Yes, it is possible to update the Cycles nodes to get all of that, knowing that it will increase the render time. For fingerprints and smudges, you can plug a non colour map to the roughness. You shall be able to find good tutorials online for Blender Cycles.
For scratches it will be a normal map or a bump map and for big dents look at real displacements map.
And if I wanted to use both fingerprints and scratches, would I connect them with a mix node and then connect it to the Roughness value?
Yes. Just choose the right operation to mix them.
Alright. Thank you!
