Usinf part list with Bricklink
Brickster12 started this discussion in Help and Tips

Hi,
I tried to figure out how to use the Inventory/BrickLink XML but somehow I didn't get the trick.

In Bricklink I can import Brickstore, LDraw, LDD or Stud.io files as a wanted list. But what is the process of using the BrickLink XML that's beeing provided by the Inventory feature in the Mecabrick library?

Edit: ok, found it out. But there were issues. Some parts were not accepted by BrickLink. I think that's why the part lib is still WIP....

Please consider posting the link to the model. There are still small errors in the conversion database of Mecabricks.

This is the model: http://mecabricks.com/en/models/DoK2wm5ev9k

The verification on BrickLink says: "One of the items is invalid or does not exist in the BrickLink catalog."
Unfortunately it does not tell which item...

And one question: is there a discussion topic here or any information on the differences between the part numbering system of Lego, Mecabrick and BrickLink?

And - I came across some parts with missing pivot points. Is there a way that I can participate in completing and correcting the parts lib?

Bricks with wrong BricklinkID:
90194 should be 48183
3037pb033 should be 3037pb033L

Mecabricks bricks can be found using both Bricklink ID and LEGO ID. I'm not sure why there are differences, but I think they probably have a good reasoning for doing so.

Whenever you come across some parts that miss pivot points, send a private message to Scrubs. It's a "on-going" work and it doesn't take so much time to get them added. It's just inserting a few numbers. Feel free to post the parts with missing pivot points here, as I will poke Scrubs to have a look at this thread to fix the Bricklink numbers .

Updated.

Bricklink is always updating its database.
Before 3037pb033L was 3037pb033 and 3037pb033R was 3037pb034
For 90194 and 48183, both reference are present under master reference 48183

There might be a very tiny difference between both moulds but even bricklink have them under the same ref.

Sorry to ask stupid questions but how can I send a private message in this forum?
I went through the parts lib and started reviewing items and found 23 with missing pivots for categories beams and bricks... (to be continued)

Wouldn't it be more efficient to open the parts lib to a broader group of users like a wiki?

Hi, Just go on this page when you are logged in: http://www.mecabricks.com/fr/account/messages
and enter the username.

They are way more than 23 pieces with missing pivot points 😛
Pivot points are tightly link with part geometry and it makes sense that people who can add new meshes can also update these values. However on the contrary of decorations where a few people have been trained to the admin UI and to Mecabricks requirements, it is not the case for part geometry. It is a more sensitive aspect which I am keen to keep the control of for now for multiple reasons in order to ensure a certain standard for Mecabricks.

I am continuously updating the old part meshes (black icons) and completing the metadata.

Yes, the 23 items I mentioned are only a first bunch I found when reviewing all items of categories Beams and Bricks.
I also noticed that some items had a black background in the part lib. And some appear in a more white color than others. Is this an indicator for incompleteness or issues?

It's more an indicator that these parts have been longer avaiable on Mecabricks (in the first few years). Still the time that pivot points got introduced was a little bit after the renewal of the icons.
