As of right now I'm can not install blender 2.7x, so I am stuck with version 2.69. Is there a way to get the same effect on rendering done in 2.69 to look the same as ones done in 2.7X?

You said you had an OS which is not on the list on the Blender download page. What is it?
The OS is a linex based OS, but after I open the program of "Blender 2.78a" it opens "Blender 2.76b".
OK. Not too sure then. The Collada importer/exporter is part of the official build anyway. I cannot do much more unfortunately.
I'm working on it, but for right now Blender 2.76b works for me!
