XML feeds
mathieub started this discussion in Suggestions and Ideas

Hello,

I spend much time on the "new parts" page to track addition to the parts library or to the "featured models" page . I also much use feedly.com for my daily browsing. Would it be possible to provide us with XML feeds to track changes to those pages ?

Thanks !

Hi Scrubs,
Would it be possible to update the RSS feed to point to the https URL instead of the http URL? I know it redirects you automatically, but I think it would be a little nicer if it went directly to the https address.

Hi Scrubs,
Since they removed the RSS Feeds/Live Bookmarks in Firefox 64, I am now using the Feedbro extension. When I am viewing the new parts feed and click on the title of an update, it takes me to the internal Feedbro page (url starts with moz-extension://).

Comparing to the Brickset feed and reading this Stack Overflow answer, it just looks like the <link> tag is missing. I think it would be ok to set it to https://www.mecabricks.com/en/parts/latest for every entry, since performing the query for the specific part (like what you are doing in the guid tag currently) can be a little slow.

Thanks for your consideration!

Please remind me about it in a couple of weeks when I will be back from holidays. I'll sort that.
The queries to look for part are way too slow. So much that I don't really use them anymore. I shall redesign them. This is not my specialty but I think I can optimise it.

Hi Scrubs,
I hope you had a nice holiday!
Here is the reminder to please add the <link> tag to each item in the RSS feed 😃

Updated. Let me know if it suits you.

Yes, this works for me. Thanks!

The rss doesn't work in apps. The links http(s)://www.mecabricks.com/parts/rss and http(s)://www.mecabricks.com/en/parts/latest don't work correctly. The first one shows the space helmet as the latest and needs to be added to the app every day again. The second link stopt at the Minifig Torso from the Desert Rally Driver. I now use 2 apps to see if it was the app, but both apps behave the same. What happened? Something major changed, making the rss feed useless. I hope you can sort this out. This new parts feed is incredibly useful for updating models.

I removed the link tags (link and guid) from the feed as they are supposed to be unique urls. Mecabricks doesn't have a special page per element. This is a valid feed so I cannot do much more.

That worked perfectly. I immediately got all the new parts in my feed. You're the hero!
