dae file crashes DAZ Studio
JevoUK started this discussion in Model Export and Render

Hi Scrubs

I use DAZ Studio to render my files, I have found that the dae file format that is downloaded from Mecabricks crashes DAZ Studio, I can import the dae file into Blender ok, then export it as a dae file again and then load it into DAZ Studio without it crashing.
I was wondering if you can look at the files from Mecabricks and Blender to see if you can see what is causing the crash.

Regards
Adrian

The dae file is generated as per the COLLADA 1.4.1 Specification from the Khronos Group https://www.khronos.org/files/collada_spec_1_4.pdf
There is probably something that the DAZ Studio importer doesn't like. Which options do you choose for the instances? Do not Group, Group by Geometry and Colour or Group by Geometry? I'm pretty sure that the issue is here which would explain why the model exported from Blender would work later in DAZ Studio.

I use the Do not Group option but I have just tried the other two options and still it crashes. If I post the crash report will that help?
I am using a Mac Mini with 10.11.3 installed and I am using Chrome to export the model.

I will also ask on the DAZ forums too.

Browser does not have any impact on the generated file. If you do it with just 1 non decorated brick does it crash too?
It will be hard for me to debug because I don't have DAZ studio. What can be done is to get the smallest possible file (1 piece is ideal) that would make the software crash and compare with the file generated by Blender.

I just did a 1x1 brick test and it still crashed.

I checked the file exported from Mecabricks and the one from Blender. The only real difference is that I don't put the normals in mine. It might be what DAZ Studio doesn't like...

Is this something that is easy to put in?
if not I can still used Blender to convert it.

No, I don't intend to put them in for now. It caused more issues than anything else and makes the files way heavier.

Ok I understand.

Thanks
