So I saw that you're planning to add a function where you can import models from LDD. It sounds like a really cool feature. Does this mean that you'll add all the LDD parts to the database? How will colors on parts with decorations work (like on LDD when you have an orange jacket torso and you make the jacket green)? How long do you think it will be before this function is added?
Hi, I made a permission system for the part library so that different people can do different things on it.
@wlang, I can give you the appropriate access/information to add new conversion data.
Sim and I started to fill in the database but there are probably almost 2000 part design that need to be reviewed so it will take a bit of time 😉 Hopefully a few more people like wlang might help us.
I really did not have the time to do anything else than coding this importer for the past week. I will restart making part stuff in the next couple of days. I've seen that you sent me json files. Would you have the original ones? It would make it easier for me to review.
Thanks
Just sent you wavefront obj versions via email. I know the 61182 Rebel scout trooper helmet isn't exactly accurate. But I don't have the part yet to measure. I intend on remaking it when I get one.
Srubs, please feel free to send me the information.
Just in case some don't know where to start: All the official Lego sets made in LDD can be found here.
Just be carful guys when you add a LDD MOC here. Make sure that the design belongs to you. Otherwise, I see issues coming...
I believe that this is a general topic concerning all users posting whatever design here, as well as you as the operator of MB and therewith jointly responsible for the content published on this platform.
For example, when I post rebuilt Lego Ideas designs here, should I expect mail from Lego's Legal Dept. or the creator's lawyer, even though I name the original creator in my postings? Or if I take some image from the internet and rebuild the design shown without a reference to the creator, because I cannot find out, who this is? Who owns designs (the copyright of official Lego Sets is certainly owned by Lego itself, and I believe this also applies to Lego Ideas sets, which become official Lego sets sold by them)? I'm sure, I must not copy Lego bricks, but what about digital sets basically available to anyone (such as LDD designs)? Do all users on this platform allow each other that their (?) designs published here may be used for creating renderings or derivates?
Only some open questions, which, at some stage, may require a sound legal advice to avoid severe legal issues (we could do a fund raising campaign to pay for this...). Also, I have not found any legal disclaimer on this page...
I'm up for helping you and Sim with the conversion data Scrubs, if you can give me a few pointers. 😃
