Selected models
Sim started this discussion in General Discussion

Some time ago, there was a time that I felt that less models were created. After a while I just found out that models get selected now...
OK, it's nice that good models get on the front page to attrack more users to this site. But is it really neccessary to have the selection page as first on the library as well? Every model being built may have some attention. (That's what LEGO is about? ) The difference in views between a model that got selected and a model that didn't got selected is a lot. And sometimes nice and good models don't get selected. The selection process feels random.
So, I would like to use this thread to have some opinions about this.

Hello,

Your question is legit and it is something I spent some time thinking about. With the current system, I know that when a model is selected it will have an impact on the number of views and the popularity. The goal behind that was only to avoid having a front library full of minifigures, empty or 1 brick stuff like it happened in the past where "proper" models were buried under a pill of other "not as interesting" things.

As it is a manual process, it can happen that nice models are forgotten or that there is a delay - it was especially true over the xmas period.

You are perfectly right, every models deserve some attention (the complete unpolished library is still available) but there is a trade-off to find in order to keep mecabricks attractive. It is how a good part of the websites having library of user generated content do.

Anyway, this is my point of view and I'd be interested to have other people opinions too.

I noticed the same thing, and I wondered about the selection process. I guess one idea is to display the selected models on the front page (as is) but default the Library to the "All Models" tab. However, I don't mind the new setup, and I love that more models get time on the front page.

I don't intend to beat a long-dead horse, but I had the same issue just recently and wondered why only one thing had been posted in two days. I then discovered the full library.

The "Selection" function keeps Mecabricks from becoming like LEGO Ideas: overflowing with utter crap. I wish Ideas had something like this.

So quick question that im not sure on the answer for. With the models that go on the front page, do you pick them? or is it some kind of system thing where your model has to have a certain amount of parts? Im making a huge model, and I wanted to ensure that it gets front page, because its almost finished and it looks sick. Is there anything I have to do to increase the chances?
