UCS Millennium Falcon is (mostly) complete!
DaPhatty started this discussion in General Discussion

After several weeks of effort I have finally completed the UCS Millennium Falcon model. I still need to add the engine masts but that will have to wait until the part is modified to allow for flexibility. That aside, I am really excited to share the model with the public.

Big thanks to Scrubs for adding missing parts as I went along, providing guidance when I needed it, and for an overall awesome website! Keep up the good work. You are really on to something with the Workshop.

Well, it is a pretty cool model 😉 Good work for assembling almost 6000 parts!

It is a good idea to have made a model that has substitutions for expensive parts.
Do you think you could also release a second version closer to the original set with for example the big decorated Disc Ø80 (51373d1). I would flag this one as official lego set and it will be displayed on websites like brickset.com
I'm sure it would end up with a good number of views!

Let me know either way.

I will also see what I can do for the minifigs.

Cheers

Official version is up and public. I replaced the radar dish (I didn't realize it was even there!) and I also went back and changed the color substitutions I had made. Other than the missing engine masts and minifigs, the second model is as accurate as I could make it. 😃

Awesome!
I flagged it. It shall appear in a day or so maximum on websites that are using the mecabricks viewer.

I'm also keen to try a 3D rendering of it in Blender.

By all means, feel free to play around with it. I tried to get the placement of the upper panels as accurate as possible, but to be honest, the upper panels of this model are VERY dependent on placement. I found myself spending way too much time adjusting the angles of the panels. Ultimately, I had to settle for "good enough" on some panels.

Are you going to get the actual real parts to make it?

Yep. In fact, I am nearly finished with the procurement of the parts. I have four shipments remaining to complete the orders I've placed.

It takes so long to piece a set like this together that I needed something to occupy my time during the procurement process. It is very difficult to resist the urge to build before one has all of the pieces. This ultimately leads to frustration. Your website allowed me to satisfy the urge to build the set without the frustration of waiting several weeks for missing parts. 😃

Hello,

I finally made a rendering with Blender of your model. You can get the 4K version on flickr.

I also found a few images on the web that will help me to make the minifigures decorations. For the rear engine masts, I will probably just model a variation of this part bent appropriately for this model. It is just too much hard work to make this part flexible for not too much benefit as it is almost never used bent. I'll do that when I come back from holidays in a few weeks.

I started my first model last night and I have to admit: the Millennium Falcon and Helicarrier will need some Zen skills to keep calm and patient 😄

Hahaha I agree with you virtualrepublic 😄
