When I was making a MOC with a large transparent cockpit, I noticed that all the transparent pieces (of all colors) were invisible. The pieces were still there, but it was a little bit annoying that I couldn't see them under the cockpit piece. This only happens while looking straight on at the model, and the pieces are visible from a sideways angle. Since I haven't made the creation public, I don't know if the error is still apparent on the final, public version. Is there any way that this could be fixed?
Hello,
I also noticed this issue a while ago and tried to fix it at the time. Transparent parts that are "inside" other transparent parts can be invisible under certain camera angles. From my investigation, it seemed to be a recurrent problem with WebGL/Threejs. Transparency is pretty tricky to handle especially when the scene is dynamic like in a CAD software. The renderer doesn't know which transparent part to render first. I admit that I currently don't have the answer for this one.
If I exported the file to another program (STL or OBJ), do you think that the issue would go away? I don't have a renderer for OBJ or STL files yet, but I want to know if the issue would be recurrent before I get one.
Hello
No no if you export and render the model with another software (e.g. Blender) you won't have any issue 😃 each one has a different way of handling materials which are independant from the geometry.
